For Tennent’s Lager, we launched a series of retro games (made by Bright Signals and Studio Something) based on childhood old-skool favourites like ‘Chap Door Run’ and ‘Wallie’. The games, which were the latest content to come out of Tennent’s world of Wellpark, were loaded onto custom built arcade machines which toured Scotland in Autumn 2016. 8-bit retro gaming is niche territory, so we had to come up with a clever and engaging plan to launch the games and promo
We commissioned the creation of special retro games cartridges which we sent out to a carefully curated list of UK wide influencers including: gaming bloggers, professional gamers and lifestyle media. This was followed up with an amazing 80s themed launch event at Tennent’s Wellpark Brewer. We ensured the event was attended by a strong mix of people that were capable of generating excitement about the games and who would share their experience on social media.
Prior to kicking off the tour we enlisted the help of Scottish comedian and Still Game star Sanjeev Kohli to produce some fun, tongue-in-cheek photography we could use to generate a second promotional hit before waving the machines off on their travels.
Not bad for a ‘niche’ subject like retro gaming!
